From CeeCee:
INTRODUCTION:
As part of my bat mitzvah study, I have learned about the Jewish concept of tikkun olam (tee-koon oh-lahm), which means “healing the world". In this day and age, I feel that our world could use some more kindness.
I am choosing to combine spreading kindness with my bat mitzvah theme of butterflies because spreading kindness is the perfect way to illustrate the Butterfly Effect! For those of you unfamiliar with this theory, the Butterfly Effect focuses on how small actions can have big effects. The idea is that the small movement of air that a butterfly creates when fluttering its wings will multiply and grow, eventually becoming a windy weather force in another part of the world!
WHY THIS PROJECT?
My grandma passed away 4 years ago. Ever since then, one of the things she sends us to let us know she is near is butterflies! I decided since she cannot be with me physically at my bat mitzvah, she can be there spiritually by having my theme be butterflies.
My grandma was known for being abundantly kind. I chose to honor her legacy with my kindness project.
HOW THE PROJECT WILL WORK:
I have created the pull-tab flier you see above. How it works is you grab off one of the kindness slips and you can either A) keep it or B) pass it on!
During April break (April 19-27), I will be hanging this pull-tab flier on bulletin boards throughout my city, including in coffee shops, at the library, the senior center, my school... and more!
HOW TO ADD YOUR KINDNESS TO THIS BUTTERFLY EFFECT:
While I’m sure that my project will spread kindness in Framingham, I’m hoping you can help me by promoting kindness in your community. Please take a moment to print these fliers (click here to print), cut on the lines between the tabs, and hang the fliers up someplace in your city or town. Even better, snap a photo of where you placed it and send it to fishmanbatmitzvah@gmail.com so that I can track how much my Butterfly Effect has expanded! (It’s also ok to send me just a location if you forget to take a photo!) I’ll report back to you during my bat mitzvah.
Thank you for your support of my bat mitzvah project. Your kindness is appreciated!
